[UI] SpaceBall Update idea

    The idea would be to launch three balls into the game, one for each company

    - First company to bring the ball to the gate, scores the goal.
    - All three balls reset when a goal is scored.
    - Only where the ball is scored, you can gather rewards
    -(or where the goal is scored first, rewards are higher)

    because now
    - it's counterproductive for each company to shoot the ball, it would just hover at the same place
    - one company is shooting, the others kill time with pvp action
    - looters just waiting at the gate

    possible benefits:
    - less pvp action
    - less inactive looters
    - makes it more a spaceball event, rather than a pvp event.

    People would shoot other companies off it so they would win, would make it more of a pvp game mode
     
  3. Although the OP has a point about what happens in the game, having 3 balls would only possibly bring more players into game. Other than that, you would still have:

    • PVP as there are missions just for the 4-4 map, other missions that can be done in any map, and shooting the players that are shooting the ball slows down that companies progress on the ball.
    • Looters will still camp out at the goal/port as that is where the boxes show up and they want to be first to the prize.
    All in all, its the most active pvp event out there, and it happens all year. PVP players count on it for the kills, which is why I keep myself out of there. LOL
     
  4. The OP has forgotten the purpose of the game is PvP and as such is why things like Spaceball, Team Death Match, and Capture the Beacon, were put into the game. I however, do agree IF you were not instrumental in the scoring of the goal (including being a defender) you should not be entitled to the rewards. Basically, you have to have fired a shot on ball or enemy during the attempt at the goal or the reward boxes are not visible to you (even with "show boxes not yours" turned on), as I know there is a lot of friction over Port Huggers who sit in map cloaked stealing the reward boxes after the point is scored. During the balanced years of the game the noobs were even able to lend a hand shooting the ball while the Heavy FE defended the ball attackers from the enemy (they were there for the enemy kills not the spaceball itself) now the UFE- are shooting the ball wanting the rewards and having them stolen by the noobs, too weak to defend themselves, hoping to get something they would not otherwise be able to get.

    IF the OP does not like the PvP action of the game then stay out of the activities that are designed to keep the PvP'er away from attacking noobs in the maps (Spaceball and T D M usually frees all maps from hunters, and C T B keeps upper maps a little freer to do things there), I personally wish they would have more activities to allow the PvP to be removed from the HOME maps as PSK~SUNDANCE, said "I keep myself out of there" as I do not enjoy the PvP portion of the game, but do not discourage those who do, just ask that there be a balance created so a UFE can not kill a 6 gun ship (maybe require them to warp into the same type of ship they are Hunting for some fairness), but with this in place any defender could attack them as long as not UFE.

    Just to add to my idea, I don't mind the pvp element of the event,
    It's mainly to add a level of gameplay to make it more interesting.

    Now the intent of the game (score most goals) seems a bit lost. Maybe the company reward should be higher. (Is there still 5% extra EP for the winning company on the next day?)
     
  6. Well if giving a target for each different company to make goals with, then the company with the most players (at the time) will win the event and would not need to have the PvP going on. Which goes against what Spaceball was designed for.

    Spaceball was created to allow "hunters" to have an easy kill area and to give others something to try to do while trying to get enough protection to make the points for the company to gain the advantage.

    What has been lost is the Company Loyalty/Pride which drove players to these activities to show what company is the best. I can agree changes need to be made to the game, but a change to the scheduled Special Activities is not the way to do it. I remember when I first started people would schedule their play time to partake in these events and the other maps would be empty, now it seems people are asking for people to come help with the activities (cuz no one is there). Doing Level Invasion Gate was how I jumped from level 8 to 12 in one night, now a friend went into Invasion at level 8 and died before he could be kicked out, for being too high, because there is no one to help kill the NPC's before they gang up on the only player in the gate.

    The imbalance of the game has divided it into 3 types of players and the ones who need to be nurtured are leaving the game as they do not understand why anyone plays this game, you have the Hunters (killing anyone they see friend or foe) usually UFE and don't want to grind NPC's, the newbs (trying to do quests and gain strength to defend themselves) trying to learn the game and to be the future of D O, and Gate Farmers (who have made it to FE but are tired of being popped all the time) doing gates to become UFE. There are a few who are in 2 groups but only because they can not get enough people together to Hunt so they do gates while waiting for their Hunting party to get online or there is no one in the maps to kill.

    BUT spaceball wasn't meant for one MCC to rule over. At the old times it was company vs company, by fighting - Nowadays we only have clans vs clans, AND if server has one mcc ruling the entire server, they just keep the sb and they take fun out from everyone due to no-one else can participate. Is that fair? No.

  9. No argument here but then MCC is not the topic of this thread where Spaceball is. And Company Loyalty was the foundation that Spaceball was founded on.

    Yeah it's not the topic but it belongs to this discussion a bit. You mention company loyalty. Yeah back in the years we had that and all events worked very well as peoples motive to go for events was to bring win for their company - but nowadays, do you see company loyalty? I don't.

    All events are controlled by clans, not companies. Thats very sad but fact :/
     
  11. I don't think anyone is arguing this fact. But it is the reason D O is losing its players. IF Company Loyalty is not going to be addressed by D O then the game is not going to improve. ALL of the hubbub to get people to join D O says 3 Companies Fighting For Supremacy of the Universe, NOT CLANS of UFE fighters ruling the Universe.

    Until D O sees this and does something about it, the game is going to be struggling to keep the players it has active and happy. Even the Events are not very much fun IF they do not have PRIVATE (Free Galaxy Gates, e.g. Halloween or Birthday) areas for the player to play.

    Thats what I mean't and why I took MCC's into this conv. But also banning mcc will not help, the biggest change must happen inside mcc players brains.
     
  14. Its not a bad idea :) But i believe in our server we are all will score the 3 of balls same second and will get more rewards :p
     
  15. Wouldn't they make it so once a ball scores, all balls reset? That's the intelligent thing to do. It's even mentioned in the OP
