Many players say rank does not matter, others say it does. I believe it is all the game is about. Everything you do is rewarded with experience and honor points and a few goodies to only keep you going to earn more. These points are only good for two things. First is your level, (probably should be displayed for player like pet) but other than pride has little effect after 17. Second is RANK, period game over.
However rank should be gained as fairly as all other aspects of the game! Nobody pays more for ammo, ships, upgrades etc. than any other player. Nobody is required to do more than any other player to accomplish a mission or gate etc. So why then is it not the same with rank?
I’ve heard the ole lines from those at the top who say nothing should change because we worked hard to get where we are at. To them I say yes you did, however I have had to work harder than you to get where you have been!
I did not have to have 70,000 points to achieve my current rank, but the guy below me can’t come close to touching it for that now. Is that fair to him? After all he pays his money, plays just as long and hard and is cheated from this one accomplishment.
I would like to achieve the Top rank of General myself, but I could care less how many others of you can also do it. If we have a thousand people make General, so what? It does not change the game for top players unless they have a vanity issue. I sure many of us are can say we’re glad you could make it to the top, but not impressed with you because you did. Even if we get there also you will still only be able to log on and play the same as you do now.
You will always be able to rule top player, hall of fame, top points charts etc. with my blessings, but I should be able to have my crowns, rings, levels, equipment and RANK in equality!

  2. Starting out, your topic is very confusing since you can see how many points you need to reach the next rank as you play. Unfortunately, as others above you are playing also, you have to work to make that plus what the bottom player is making at that person plays. Players position on rank depends on the player. I personally think showing rank, mine and others, should be optional. I say this because I think most find rank, or lack there of, intimidating. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing a badge in front of the enemy's name when they uncloak on you while you are just starting out in the game and know you can't make it back to the port that is just half way across from the screen before you pop. Also, just playing around you notice while people in chat are talking about "I just made Colonel," you notice you can't get off the Sergeant list that you have been stuck on for a year. I don't mind not making rank since its not my goal in the game so don't get me wrong about any rank I may be "stuck on." Your level showing would really be a mute thing since leveling up allows you to do two things: Access more maps and missions.
Those player's higher in rank actually have to work to stay where they are. They have to spend time playing to keep ahead of whoever they are ahead of while at the same time working to somehow advance as well. The rank structure in the game is similar to real life. There can only be one at the top. So one for each company is good. There can only be so many at the next level so as such limiting the amounts makes sense. The big thing to remember is that rank is visual. Unlike the real military, you don't have to do a thing that anyone ahead of you says to do, ever. Sometimes you pay for not doing it but yet you don't have to budge just because the general says so.
Some players do pay more in ammo and the like. Some seem to always be in a gate and you don't do gates all the time from boxing and pally. Some call for Hades back to back all day. Tell me they are not paying out to make that happen. In the end, if you want to be the one with the top rank, you have to pass the one at the top. As long as this game as been going on, don't expect the military aspect of it to change in the near term.

DAAA I can see the points for the next rank. But thats for today only. Tomorrow it's 20,000 more. You cant set a goal to achieve that is steady. As far as how the current system works I do not need explanation, Im well aware thats why I dont like it. The showing of rank and you intimadation is a whole other topic. Im well aware of what players in higher ranks have to do. SAME AS ME! The rank structure is NOTHING LIKE REAL LIFE, you explain that yourself, because nobody runs anything, there are no bosses so it does not matter how many there are. P.S. this has no similarity to the military to which you are obviously a stranger.

If to get any rank you just need to get a set amount of points, then the value/achievement of rank is totally gone. What's the point being the general rank if everyone else is also a general? What is the value in having it now? The rank system is how it is cause it has to be to have value, what you're suggesting would basically make ranks meaningless.

Other than just "oh look I reached a certain unmoving amount of points", what you have described is player level though player level has no visual change on the game next to your ship. In lots of games they have systems/ranks like this which you need to compete with other players for it, you just need to accept that this is how it is cause there is nothing inherently wrong with this type of thing.

Other than not everyone can have a high rank(which there isn't exactly anything wrong with that), but that goes for a lot of things in life you can't have absolutely everything(that would be boring and impractical).
