  1. Hello DO players and devs,

I returned to Dark Orbit after a while just to find my server (GB1) rather empty. Player numbers appear to have decreased?
So what about uniting some of the servers (like GB1, GB2) to generate a more livid gaming experience? DO is about multiplayer after all...

    Best regards,
    QUEENofRhye

This topic has been on for the last 3 years. Lately Bigpoint finally made a twicth livestream, about ideas with the server mergeds

  3. Thank you.
So this idea is actually a thing?
Good to hear, Dark Orbit shouldn't be "empty space".

    Best regards,

Eh, not really, server merges weren't talked about in a positive light. What was mainly brought up was the problems it would cause, both for players and the development team.

At the moment there's 60~ servers, each server has its own way of doing things which players have become accustomed too, e.g some servers players can expect between certain hours to be able to do solo cubes, or the server works together on crazy cubes etc. Merges would destroy a lot of this, which is a big problem especially when so many players rely on solo cubes for uridium, if there was none left then they would have to buy their uridium, making the game more expensive.

Then on top of that there's all the issue with ranks, some people don't care about them but others pay thousands for theirs and then only to lose it due to a server merge isn't exactly going to be popular with them.
Seafight also attempted a server merge and it caused quite a lot of problems technically.

Instead they said they are more inclined to work towards cross-server events and maps. This avoids almost all the problems merges cause whilst giving players from different servers the option the play with / against each other when they want.

If we imagine a new battlemap system was created that was cross-server then players could enter this battlemap system then when they got bored they could go back to their regular server and expect the likes of solo cubes to be accessible.

Other stuff such as cross-server events like TDM and Sector Control were also mentioned.

You can see the livestream on their twitch profile: https://www.twitch.tv/darkorbit/profile
The videos are deleted by twitch after a certain amount of time but you can find the rest on the DO youtube channel, Session #5 is the one which talks about cross-server stuff.

Don't hold your breath where this topic is concerned. From what I have read over the last 6 months on the topic, trying it could mess up everything for anyone on the affected servers. They could or should offer to move accounts to a different server but again the same problem applies.
