A quick google search using "DarkOrbit Unity" revealed a BP post from 2016 using the Unity game engine.

Since then, we've been kept in the dark. Unity game engine is good, and a client using that would really be awesome, back in 2016. But we are now in 2020, the game is in shambles, and BP still plans for an "interim" solution using a modded browser that will still allow flash to run after it is been deprecated.

Honestly, I doubt we will ever see DO running on a Unity client. If this was the plan, it could have been communicated to us, the players, a long time ago. The statement about about moving to Unity contradicts all the recent statements about the future of the game that I can remember.

    As usual, caveat emptor.

    Best wishes,

    anduril

Not sure that BP share holders [or staff] would be happy if they lost 2 more of the few games they still own.
Unity is still up there with the best and as Deter said in his "official post", they have already migrated one game to Unity so it makes sense to stick with it.
Pity they didn't do DO first but hey what can you do - At least they should have a better idea on how to proceed having don't it once already.

It may well remain a browser game but that is pretty much where any comparison to Flash and Unity begins and ends.
Unless Devs do something really dumb graphics/visuals will improve greatly with Unity.
The only reason someone wouldn't notice (some major) changes after migration is complete - Would be if they don't actually login, or be unfortunate to be stuck on a dialup connection. Everyone else should see at least some improvement in game play, especially those areas where Flash just stalls (lags), like fights where there is 20 or 30 people involved,

As long as the servers at BP are up to it, Unity could at the very least greatly reduce the lag, memory usage and actually see those with the hardware getting FPS along the lines of what their hardware is capable. Many encounter these issues now due to Flash not being designed to do what BP force it to. Unity on the other hand was designed with browser games, viewing movies, etc in mind.
