[GI] Ranking

I have a question... I am having problems with my rank. It's been nearly two years and my rank is still switching from Basic Captain to Chief Lieutenant and the other way around.
It keeps doing that and I haven't stopped playing since I started playing this game and that was in February 2014.
At first, my rank switched from Chief L. to Basic Cap. very quickly. It took me just around two months, it lasted around three weeks and then switched back. I was actually expecting that, and then around six months took me to get the Basic Cap. title back. After another six months, it happened again, lasted a few weeks, and yesterday, it happened again.
What the hell am I doing wrong. I play this game literally e v e r y d a y and make progress. People who are beneath me in the Best Pilots rank have a better ranking title than I do. They are Basic Cap. or even Captain and I'm here stuck on this position. It's starting to piss me off.
It started off on 210000 ranking points required for the Basic Cap., now it requires 336000. I know that depends on other players' points, but the number keeps fluctuating.
What do I do?

You have to remember that you are not the only one playing. A lot of players will be on daily and working just as hard as you within the game. It may go back and forth due to player kills, gates and general npc kills. Just keep grinding away. You will find you will advance. Remember the harder you hit, the faster you will obtain your goal.

 

With the Kronos Gate and Discounted Gate costs you will find the ranks are being messed with greatly. The biggest way to get ranked is by PvP (these points are times 3, in system, instead of divide by 2). USA West has one player with over 109 Billion rank points and after the cheats were removed I believe they were reduced to 60 Billion as the one I believe was top user now has 66 Billion (second place). This may indicate there is a NEW BUG that is being exploited again.

The Rank system is a fluid system as the game is being played everyone is increasing their rank points but the ranks can only have so many people in them (there is a FAQ dealing with the Rank System and how many players can have a Rank) and is figured on a Percentage of the Company you are playing on your server, of course if you are playing on a heavily populated ACTIVE server/company you will have more people in the ranks than a less populated server/company but the same system works for each. If you have a friend, the same rank as you, playing as an enemy ask him what he has to have for his rank, to see what I mean, the person needing the higher number has more people playing for that company. You will also see a change anytime they have a Botter Ban hit the System (usually about 4 weeks after the announcement).

As far as the players below you having a rank higher than you, they may be in a different company, they may be doing more PvP than you, they may have more Honor than you, they may not have been killed by others as often. Look at the "Ranking" from the back page Home page and see what all goes into getting your rank points, anything in RED takes points away from you anything else you need to look at the right hand side and see if it multiplies or divides and even your SHIP can give you 1000 points extra (a Citadel is the highest I know of at 12K) a Phoenix (P'nut) is only 1000 points.

So if you want your RANK TITLE and want to keep it you need to KILL 3 ships a day, be in a Citadel ship, do 2 gates a day, and complete 3 quests a day and you might be able to keep the Rank, but as the UFE players have gotten tired of "grinding NPC's" and are killing players they are ranking faster than the players who are not UFE.

When I was in a Clan I had a clansman ranked (Title) 3 positions higher than me but was way below me in the chart because he had less Experience points but more PvP kills until he got hit for killing friendlies (not really they were bad mouthing our clan but were not clanned themselves so we could not declare WAR, they actually left the clan we had warred) but that is another thread. He was a level 16 player and I was a level 19 but I got my level from quests he has his from PvP.

Hope this helps explain why the Ranks are all over the place, while in there look at the "Basic Space Pilot" around you, these are either "Inactive" (not logged into the game in over 4 weeks) or "banned" (not yet removed from the system completely) accounts. If they are "Inactive" they stay in the system for 6 months when D O purges the system of inactive users (these are the accounts people cry about that they LOST), but not all of them are removed also, some have been able to request their account back with the proper information to help find and describe the account, but most are forced to start a new account.

 

I think you are confusing top user points and rankpoints with regard to the beginning of your post.

The best way to gain rank points and top user points is through GG - with hades gates on a 50% Booster is is possible to do over 100,000,000 honour in 1 week, which is the equivalent to 1,000,000 rankpoints, this is not including any RP gained from EP or NPC kills. It would take over 16,000 Goliath kills to achieve 1,000,000 rankpoints, so it is much easier to gain rank points with honour via GG.

I am very thankful for the long response, however most of the things you mentioned are the things I am already familiar with. Yes, I understand the connection between players' activity and ranks. Yes, I understand the rank calculation system very well. ALSO, I am familiar with the fact that PvP and completing Galaxy Gates give the most honour points, but sadly I am not able to complete 2 GG a day because 1) my laptop would combust into flames (I know, it's an old, slow laptop, I'm gonna get a new one asap) 2) I have school 3) I don't have time 4) I can't gather that much Uridium to buy the energy spins, nor gather enough energy spins in my free time (even though I spend around 6 hours in front of the screen during the week and up to 12 hours during weekends)
I also don't like PvP that much because it stresses me out, I have a slight case of PTSP because of it and, frankly, it makes me feel bad. (I know I know... sounds cowardly)
Anyway, I'm glad I got the response and I agree, there might actually be a ranking bug.

Also, I even saw people who have been in the game longer than I have, are Uber Elite but they still have the Basic Space Pilot rank. It's honestly hilarious.

Thank you everyone for assisting the user with their concern.

While you are working on rank points so is everyone else. You will only climb to the next rank if you pass the people in front of you which means you will need to add rank points faster than the next person. To increase your Badge Rank more efficiently, bonuses to Honor will have the greatest influence. On a personal note, I myself did not know this when I began and switching companies got me stuck at Major to this day

Another note to remember is that Ranks are based on a percentage of the active players in your company. Gates are a good rank point earner as stated above if you are not much of a PvP player which gives great rank points per kill. Another helpful thing might be to group up with other users and just bash npc's.
