Taking alot of things into consideration im suggesting the following.

option 1) the simplest, allow the Leonov buff to extend into uppers.

option 2) give the leonov designs that will allow it to function in the upper maps and other
    foreign environments.

Why, simply put, the evolution of game has come to the point that the Leonov ship is needed all over the home maps and not just in lowers. Its bonuses extending no further than company boundaries. Utilizing special designs that would allow it to operate in different environments. IMO this move is essential in creating an oppurtunity for new player developement, survival and possibly prospering in the game environment as it stands.

  2. Great idea, if the Leonov is going to truly be the average starter ship for new players, then they also need access to upper maps with a ship that will suit them. The increased Leonov rocket damage will help a lot of new players in upper maps as well, as new players usually do not put promi or seprom on their lasers.

  3. Yeah sadly enough a leo cant even escape a citadel atm lol.

  4. The simple answer to your simple question: No

It is VERY easy to get your hands on the stronger ships in the game, such as the Goliath. There is no reason and would be a waste of time for BP to strengthen a ship that's already been buffed once, and if there are already ships stronger than the Leonov that are easy to obtain.

It may be easy to get a ship, but getting the firepower to equip the ship is another matter entirely. Having a playable ship on hand for a developing player is critical in todays game environment. This game WILL NOT GROW unless a player feels like they have a chance to achieve a marginal level of success. As it stands now, the leo serves one purpose to make Sibs and Devs profitable to hunt because their payouts are so low. Make the Leonov a more verstile and playable ship.

  6. Meanwhile I am running around in a Bigboy and a Nostro shooting everything in the game but other players.

yes again, sure if you have the equipment for these ships. Concede that if the leo was taken out of lowers it would become a broke ship. But, Leonov "mission specific" designs would allow expanding the versatility of the Leonov ship. Start putting out Spec Designs for all the ships.

Think about it from BP's point of view - They are here to make money, if the Leo were to be buffed (again) and made more "new player friendly" - Why would new players buy Uridium to upgrade larger more expensive ships?

If, this game were meant to create a level playing field where new and old players compete on the same level, the whole game would need to be redesigned. Simple fact is the game is designed to get you to spend money in the hope of one day being able to compete with older more established players. With this in mind, the game will never appeal to a wider audience and so player numbers will always stay pretty much as they are.
Pay to win games like this one are all about instant gratification (for the majority), so the current model BP uses for DO misses the mark by a very long way. Although it has improved somewhat from how it was a few years ago (LF4's as give away's for logging in) but then the benchmark for competing at a higher level has also gone up.

There's nothing like spending $100 on a game only to find the first person you come across still kills you like you are a Struener.

  9. Lower Map Invasions is one of the biggest reasons why new players quit the game.

Starting off as a new player, and having enemies constantly in your maps, killing you over and over, highly discourages new players to keep playing Dark Orbit.

    1) The Leonov needs a buff, it would keep new players from quitting the game.

It is true that new players have easy access to "stronger and more powerful ships" i.e. the Goliath . . . But then if new players now use a Goliath, then guess who will be the new target for those quests from enemy players?

Matter in fact, buffing the Leonov would give an incentive to new players to not quit Dark Orbit--they no longer will be the targets of quests from enemy company members. When was the last time you saw a quest that called for killing Leonovs?

    2) Buffing the Leonov would encourage UFEs to stay on their own home maps!

When UFEs play on their own maps, it does two extremely beneficial things: the first is protecting the new players in their own company from invaders--The second thing is that if UFEs are now using Leonovs themselves because the home-map benefits are so great, they will less like be invading other maps! Which means they won't be killing new players from other companies.

The Hull doesnt matter. The only thing that matters in this game is how many lasers you have and the drone you put them in. Can you really have a debate about hull configurations. HP can be a secondary consideration depending on how well a player fights.

"Mission Specific" designs. im talkin the cube killin leo or maybe even the UBER KILLIN PEANUT = on the 4-5 map 15 minute long prismatic shields 4X damage versus ubers 2X versus PVP. Yaaaaa now ya talkin. COMEe GETt SOMEeee. Get creative and put some fun in the game. Put the skins in assembly. Allow skins/buildouts to be put on any ship. A slot system just like lasers or shields. Something aside from which goli your flying.

What is a "New Player", as in how long is a new player considered "new"?
Buffing the Leo isn't going to stop new players quitting, unless it is made invulnerable it is still going to die to just about anything bigger than it.
Players kill newbies in Leos for the same reason they kill new players in anything else - "They can", is the only reason they need. So again unless the Leo is made invulnerable to being killed in a PVP fight it will keep getting killed.

Buffing the Leo isn't going to keep UFE's on their home maps and if it did the game would quickly die - It is a PVP game, players fight each other in each others maps, that is the aim of the game.

    Idea;
You want to help new players stay longer, extend "new player protection" from a few hours to a month. One month is enough time for most to get established enough to 1; decide whether DO is for them 2; build up a ship they can at least survive in.

Giving the Leonov "Mission Specific designs will most definately provide a platform that a new player can start building from. A pimped Leonov isnt going to keep them from being hunted but people always have second thoughts aboiut attacking a Leo.

Mission specific designs wont break the ship either. Like a cube killing Leonov, on any other map or NPC and its your typical smurfed leo, put it on X-6 in front of a cube/prots and the system powers up like a Christmas Tree.

New Player = less than FE (blue 8-iris). at least thats the way i look at it FE, UFE (dressed drones), uber (spartans)

Now that would be a player protection, a PVP switch for non FE players/<12th-15th level or even NON=PVP design for ships who cant be targeted unless there is a war status or the ship fires first.
