A thought that could help newer players and weaker players. We have different quests that change dependent on player level. Many of the quests involve the shooting of enemy players. A quest is completed by shooting them with relation to their ship, their company, the map they are on or just the fact that they are the enemy, along with a number to be killed.

There is no regard to a targets time in service, possible strength or abilities. By the very design of these quests the newbie and weaker players are set up. It's pure gravy!

However if another variable were introduced like the target has to be between certain experience levels based on your own, then the gravy dries up. While there are always those that will shoot them, no benefit will come of it towards your quest numbers.

This would require assigning an identifiable level to players. One easily identifiable way might be as I put forward in another post, or assigned to player name, Slightly more difficult to see may be a number box like the P.E.T.

These ideas could work on some way, however, I am always skeptical about these level systems. You know, players are weak on some servers even if they had high levels, no matter what. That's a problem in experience levels example, the quests give too much Experience and you're required to climb Ubers from level 13, which is kinda meh, especially on Global Europe / Global America where you can't possibly build your equipment on that level.

But I have considered also these options:
    • Registration date and playing time
    • Equipment
    • Ship
I try to explain on the spoilers kinda what might be good measures for this "newbie" thingy, they work or they don't, complicated to make or not.

The registration date could be good for newbies. If the account is example created 2 months ago, players won't be able to use that player to anything. However, this is issue for those returning players, who's account is old, but does not have kinda anything, example I do have one that kind of account. Some cases, the account is old enough that the player does not even remember login credentials -> new account anyways.

This is the most complicated one. First of, the missions would have to query the player's equipment who you just destroyed. The second part is, this is a thing which can be abused, depending of how the equipment is queried. We had UBA as an example of this. :(

The Leonov is a starter ship. That ship gives a bit more rewards than Phoenix, but not that much, which is good. People often even leaves Leonov in their own peace, unless hunters has a mission, where Leonovs are counted. This shouldn't be actually possible, because why starter ships should be even included on the missions?

I don't honestly know what is the real solution to help newbies, but I am certainly sure it won't relate to levels at all and I actually even doubt my own idea already.

  3. Those missions automatically assume all players with like ship are set up to hold their own against an attack, possibly. Unfortunately, we get 1 day old players in a goli or anything else in the shop thanks to credit card. The flip side is with same card some are even FE. We normally find them talking smack in chat with veteran players going "Who is that?"

That said, the OP has a very valid point, and a solution for it has been needed for years.

  4. I think this is a good idea. Could help quite a bit. Many new players lack good tutelage from the higher level players.

I've noticed over the past couple of years a lack of help from the higher level players. Not too sure what has caused this, perhaps we just get too involved in our own growth. Once a certain plateau is reached in this game the next plateau becomes even harder to achieve.

I try to stop every once in a while to help novice players. I've spent thousands of hours helping and to be honest, I feel pretty damn good about it, yet at the same time carry a personal quilt for driving forward on my mission to being top ship killer on my server. I've done well and still have a ways to go.

    This is a good idea.
